The UAE’s national railway network, Etihad Rail, is continuing to take shape as one of the most transformative infrastructure projects in the country. Recent announcements confirm that a major railway junction and passenger station will be established in Al Faya, Abu Dhabi, with operations expected to begin in 2026.
The Al Faya station will be located approximately 15 minutes from the ZPTM development site within Abu Dhabi Ranches, positioning the project directly within one of the most important emerging transportation corridors in the Emirate.
This development represents a significant milestone for the broader region and further strengthens the long-term strategic positioning of ZPTM.
Transforming Connectivity Across the UAE
Once operational, the Etihad Rail passenger network will connect the UAE’s major cities and economic centers through a high-speed, modern rail system.

From Abu Dhabi Central Station, the journey time to Dubai is expected to be approximately 52 minutes, dramatically improving inter-city mobility and creating entirely new commuting patterns across the country.
For residents and professionals, this creates a new dynamic within the UAE’s economic geography. Many people who work in Dubai will now be able to live in Abu Dhabi Ranches and commute efficiently by train, allowing them to combine ZPTM’s quality of life with professional opportunities across the Emirates.
The ability to drive to a station in Abu Dhabi, take a short train journey to Dubai, and return home for dinner the same evening represents a structural shift in how people may choose to live and work in the future.
A Strategic Growth Corridor in Abu Dhabi
Globally, major transportation hubs tend to accelerate development and investment in surrounding areas. The establishment of a major Etihad Rail junction at Al Faya is therefore expected to act as a catalyst for growth along this emerging corridor in Abu Dhabi.

The ZPTM project is located within Abu Dhabi Ranches, an area already positioned for significant residential and community development. The addition of a national rail junction nearby further enhances the area’s accessibility and long-term attractiveness for residents, businesses, and international visitors.
Major infrastructure investments of this scale typically drive increased urban development, improved connectivity, and stronger regional integration.
Connecting ZPTM to the Wider Region
Beyond domestic connectivity, the Etihad Rail network is designed as part of a wider GCC railway system, which will eventually link the UAE with neighboring countries across the region.
For ZPTM, this means that the development will not only be connected to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but over time also to the wider Gulf region through an integrated rail network.
This level of connectivity supports the vision of ZPTM as a globally connected destination for sports, education, and innovation, with easy access for residents, students, visitors, and partners traveling from across the UAE and beyond.
Infrastructure as a Foundation for Future Growth
Infrastructure is often the backbone of successful long-term developments. The combination of Abu Dhabi’s ongoing master-planning initiatives, large-scale residential projects in the surrounding areas, and now the Etihad Rail junction at Al Faya creates a powerful foundation for future growth.
With the railway expected to begin operations in 2026, the timing aligns closely with the broader development horizon for ZPTM and the continued expansion of Abu Dhabi’s next-generation urban communities.
As this new transportation network comes online, the area surrounding Abu Dhabi Ranches is set to become one of the most strategically connected locations in the Emirate.
